- Instigated “Training The Trainers” courses for the Royal College in England and other institutions. Courses have been run at the College itself, in Farnborough (RAMC) and some elements in the Hadessa University, Jerusalem. Overseen expansion of the programme for the Royal College of Surgeons throughout the British Isles including Dublin, Glasgow and six other regional centres. Developed, directed and taught on fifty such courses in the last three years.
- Responsible for the international expansion of the programme in Europe (Czechoslovakia, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Kosovo, Greece, Malta and Sweden), Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, Australia (Perth) and USA (Tampa, Florida and Columbia, South Carolina),.
- Examiner for School of Chiropody, Belfast, 1985 – 1990.
- Director for four TTT courses in South Tyrone Hospital for Consultant staff from Northern Ireland, including two courses for Orthopaedic Consultants and one specifically for Altnagelvin Area Hospital staff.
- Developed courses for the College of Surgeons in Assessment, running four times per year.
- Developed the Appraisal courses on behalf of the College for use by Trusts in the UK.
- Developed courses for Consultants at the Royal College of Surgeons dealing with research, management (including finance) and audit (including communication skills). Also involved in determining the forthcoming systems for measuring competence.
- Educational Tutor on the Management Development Course for Specialist Registrars in Northern Ireland 1997-1998.
- Three courses in education specifically for physicians and surgeons were run at the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow (1997) with a further two in 1998.
- Conceived, set up and run teaching course in laparoscopic surgery at South Tyrone Hospital (this also provides income generation for the Unit of Management). These are intensive, instructional courses in safe laparoscopic surgery and are the only ones in Northern Ireland. To date, more than one hundred surgeons have been trained including surgeons from the province, the rest of the UK, Republic of Ireland, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, since 1990.
- Provided seven teaching courses in Qatar and throughout the United Arab Emirates in gallbladder and hernia surgery, 1993/1994. Further course in hiatus hernia surgery at Kuwait in 1996.
- Designed and developed the first Multi-Disciplinary Medical/Para-Medical Teaching Instructor Course (hospital doctors, GP Tutors for Northern Ireland, Dental Tutors for Northern Ireland, Social Work Tutors for the Southern Board, Senior Hospital and Community Nurses), June 1994. Four further courses have been run since then.
- Invited speaker on trauma for a full series of videos made for GP’s (Telemed Videos) supplied to every practice throughout the UK and Ireland as well as some abroad (from 1992 – 1993). Lecturer on various courses including Basics for GP’s in Northern Ireland, Trauma Workshops in the UK (including Newcastle, Sunderland, Birmingham, Cardiff and London), as well as contributing to international surgical programmes in Amsterdam, Pissouri (Cyprus), Madrid and Jerusalem (1992 - 1994).
- Member of team from Royal College of Surgeons, England, to set up and train trauma service for the Falkland Islands, September 1995.

- Numerous publications before Consultant appointment including research into Vena Caval Filtration, e.g. “Comparison of Greenfield Filter and Vena Caval Ligation” published in Surgery 1982, and Breast Cancer, e.g. “High Colloidal Uptake in Axillary Nodes with Metastatic Disease” published in British Journal of Surgery 1981. Since then there have been some general publications such as “Management of a Widowmaker” 1987 and “Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in a District Hospital” published in Ulster Medical Journal, January 1993.

- Medical Staff Liaison Officer in Northern Ireland responsible for the development of relevant medical support services to the Military in Northern Ireland during a period of down sizing.
- Developing ATLS Programme during its initial phase in the UK as a member of the Committee. Researched the efficacy of the Educational Programme whilst undertaking a MD Thesis.

To this end, lectured in a number of teaching hospitals throughout the UK with regard to specific surgical management of severe trauma in a mass casualty situation.
